HAWK PLANT HIRE EYES UP DEAL WITH FINNING FOR THIRTY NEW CAT 725 ARTICULATED DUMP TRUCKS
National plant hire specialist, Hawk Plant Hire has increased its fleet of articulated dump trucks in a deal with Finning to purchase 30 new Cat 725 articulated trucks, taking its existing fleet to 42 Cat 725’s.
Capable of carrying loads up to 23 tons, the new articulated trucks were delivered in April 2007 and have already been hired out for use by Hawk Plant Hire customers across the UK. In addition to the purchase of the Cat 725’s, Hawk Plant Hire has also signed a deal with Finning for extended warranties and a comprehensive maintenance and service support plan. Linked to Finning’s national branch network the agreement now covers Hawk Plant Hire’s entire Caterpillar fleet, which also includes a number of Cat 224 twin drum ride-on rollers.
Operating through a network of branches, offering self-drive hire, operated hire and complete site supply, managed from the Hawk Group headquarters in Wem, Shropshire, the Hire fleet consists of a full range of plant and work tools. In addition to plant hire, Hawk also offers comprehensive safety and operator training to the latest CITB standards, as well as giving individuals hands on experience using equipment on its specially designed test facility.
Talking about the deal with Finning, Hawk Plant Hire director and general manager, Paul Allman said: “Because we work in a diverse marketplace, offering hire solutions to customers throughout the UK, for anything from road contracts to quarrying, recycling and demolition work, customer demand for articulated trucks has been increasing. Recognising the opportunities in this marketplace, we analysed our overall machine utilisation against demand and saw the need to increase our articulated truck fleet substantially. Having operated a fleet of 24 Cat 725’s supported by Finning since late 2005, our positive experience with the model and Finning support gave us the confidence we needed to invest in a further 30 units.
From an operational and financial perspective, it was not really all just about the performance of the 725’s, as being manufactured by Caterpillar you know their machines are inherently robust and reliable. For Hawk Plant Hire we are equally concerned with the service support and backup we have for the equipment we invest in. It was here that Finning were able to offer real piece of mind, as throughout our long relationship with the business Finning have given us access to the service and expertise we have come to expect. By managing our service, maintenance and potential on-site requirements from their national network, we know that if our customers have a problem with any one of our 42 Cat 725’s anywhere in the UK, a Finning engineer will be with them in no time, getting them up and running as soon as possible.
From plant hire perspective it is this level of service that helps us to be highly competitive in an aggressive market, reducing downtime and keeping our customers happy. Couple this with the high utilisation we get from an in demand, flexible year round hire tool like the Cat 725 and you have all the ingredients for a successful relationship,” concluded Paul.
Powered by the Cat C11 Acert engine, the compact Cat 725 offers a gross power of 233kW, delivered through a six-speed electronic controlled transmission. In addition the three-point front suspension provides a smooth ride, allowing the operator to travel at speed over rough terrain, with good visibility from the large center-mounted cab, making the Cat 725 the ideal choice for a whole range of applications.
